There is resistance to employee attendance tracking in our company

Most of the companies of today have realized the importance of monitoring employee attendance. Employees ultimately determine the productivity and profitability of a business, thus it is essential for businesses to efficiently control employee absenteeism. In order to keep an eye on employees and ensure minimum absenteeism, companies make use of employee attendance tracking software and systems.employee attendance tracking

Employee attendance tracking software facilitates the companies in properly implementing time and attendance policies and keeps an eye on employees’ activities at work. In order to make the tracking more efficient and remove the problems related to attendance of employees like buddy punching, companies make use of systems like biometric time clocks. The main reason why employees resist attendance tracking is because of lack of knowledge regarding the systems and software being used.

Firstly, employees have very different levels of understanding. After the implementation of attendance tracking in the companies a lot of employees have reluctance to use the system because they are simple not familiar with the process and do not know how to use it. Secondly, employees are not aware of the fact that employee attendance tracking also benefits them. To them it is simply a way for the management to keep an eye on their activities, which is viewed as invasion of their privacy. Moreover, some employees are offended by the fact that the management of the company feels the need to monitor their attendance when they work assiduously and do not indulge in buddy punching.

As mentioned before, the companies make use of biometric time clocks. These are equipments which facilitate in identifying the employee by scanning their fingerprints, hand structure and retina. The major cause of reluctance or resistance is because the employees worry about the use of the information obtained through these attendance tracking systems.

What the companies need to do if their employees are resistance towards the implementation of attendance monitoring procedures is firstly to educate them. The companies should provide each employee with a handbook or conduct a small seminar which perfectly covers the entire working of the attendance system. Moreover, it should be communicated to the employees that these attendance systems not only help the managers but the employees as well. It lessens their burden of work as they are not held responsible for the slacking or absenteeism of other employees, meaning they are just accountable for their own work and no one else’s.

The employees should be also informed that they are the integral part of the organization who determine company productivity and profitability, thus there is a need to monitor their not through employee attendance tracking. Furthermore, when elaborating on the use of time and attendance tracking systems, it should be made clear that the fingerprints and the scanning of the retina or the hand is solely for the purpose of identification of the employees and that their sensitive data will not be used for any other purposes. Such actions will reduce if not eliminate the resistance of employees towards employee attendance tracking.
